I am Professor of East Asian International Relations in Indiana University's Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, where I also serve as Founding Director of its 21st Century Japan Politics & Society Initiative. I research and teach on East Asian international relations, politics, and diplomacy—with a particular focus on Japanese politics and foreign (esp. security) policy, the U.S.-Japan alliance, U.S.-Japan-China relations, and Asia-Pacific security affairs. My other professional affiliations include Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and Faculty Associate and Associate-in-Research at, respectively, Harvard University's Program on U.S.-Japan RelationsandReischauer Institute of Japanese Studies.
